My Journey of Knowledge: A Story for Small Business Owners

My professional journey is a tapestry woven from diverse threads—each role, industry, and challenge has shaped me into Me, uniquely equipped to guide small business owners toward success. From the dynamic world of transport and logistics to the entrepreneurial thrill of owning my own businesses, surviving in real estate, retail management and more. I’ve gained insights that translate directly to the challenges you face as a small business owner. Let me share my story and show you how my experiences can help your business grow.

Early Days in Transport and Logistics

My career began in the transport and logistics sector, where I started as a cadet and quickly progressed through roles like manifest clerk, dispatcher, and operations manager. In these positions, I learned the art of efficiency—how to manage teams, streamline operations, and ensure resources were used effectively. I implemented dispatch systems that improved vehicle utilisation and collaborated with major clients to enhance operational workflows. These early experiences taught me the importance of clear communication, strategic planning, and attention to detail—skills that are critical for any small business looking to optimise its operations.

Stepping into Entrepreneurship

One of the most transformative chapters of my journey was being a partner in a performance car workshop building race and show cars. As an entrepreneur, I was responsible for every aspect of the business: managing daily operations, negotiating with suppliers, developing marketing strategies, and leading a team of mechanics. Within just 15 months, I doubled the company’s sales by expanding our market reach, securing sponsorship deals, and developing online and showroom sales channels. This experience was a crash course in entrepreneurship, teaching me how to balance innovation with pragmatism, manage finances under pressure, and build a brand that resonates with customers. For small business owners, I understand the highs and lows of running your own show and can offer practical advice to navigate those challenges.

Exploring New Horizons

My curiosity led me to the marine and leisure sector, where I worked firstly as a sales assistant, gaining deep knowledge of boat maintenance and related products. This role sharpened my customer service skills and taught me the value of product expertise in building trust and loyalty. I learned how to connect with clients, understand their needs, and deliver solutions that made a difference—skills that are directly applicable to helping small businesses improve their customer relationships. Then further knowledge working on Vehicle Ferry service gaining Skippers and Engineering Qualifications to learn more about more about marine industry.

Scaling Operations in Freight

Returning to the transportation industry, I took on a leadership role managing freight operations for a major travel group. I oversaw multiple depots, managed a fleet of over 20 vehicles, and ensured timely logistics for ferry services. When the company acquired another freight business, doubling its size, I played a key role in managing staff across locations, change and maintaining profitability. This experience honed my ability to lead staff through growth and change, a skill I bring to small businesses looking to scale or streamline their operations.

Surviving in Real Estate

I worked as a Real Estate Salesperson. I say I survived as I would say Real Estate is a very competitive and a constant battle like being in business. You have some wins and some losses. You have to be an innovator with your skills in marketing, client relationship management, and strategic planning. I’ve achieved high sales prices for clients by setting clear goals, leveraging advertising strategies, and maintaining strong relationships. This role has taught me the power of persistence, strategic marketing, and building trust—lessons I can share with small business owners looking to grow their brand or customer base.

Diverse Roles, Universal Lessons

Throughout my career, I’ve taken on varied roles that have broadened my perspective. As a franchisee for a corporate taxi service, I focused on sales and customer service, learning the importance of small details in client satisfaction. As an operations manager and owner for a food companies, I implemented cost-saving measures and improved stock management, boosting productivity through clear KPIs. Each role, from truck driver to area manager to business owner, has added to my understanding of what drives business success across industries.
